I’m a big fan of steampunk and this is a mighty fine example if I do say so myself…
This is awesome. I’ve seen some pretty creative things done with wood but I’ve never seen it made to look like it’s melting!
You can never here to many stories like this. Unfortunately there are way to many people that would have stuck their nose in the air at this poor lady. | December 30th was one of the worst days of Elsie Clark’s life, until she met Dean Germeyer. |
| The 79-year-old Canadian grandmother was on her way home to Winnipeg, Manitoba when she missed her flight out of Dallas-Forth Worth after an airport employee left her at the wrong terminal for hours |
| “There was a connection between Elsie and myself,” Germeyer told the Chicago Tribune. “She wasn’t asking for anything at all.” |
He called his wife to arrange an extra place setting at the dinner table, and brought Clark home. After dinner, he took Clark on a brief city tour, put her up in a hotel suite just off Michigan Avenue, and arranged for a car to take her back to the airport the next day.
“He even gave me a new toothbrush and toothpaste,” Clark told the Chicago Tribune. “I just sat down when I got to the hotel and I cried and cried and cried. Everything he did for me was just so beautiful.” Read more at travel.aol.com |
Very clever idea and sounds great too! The best part is, since it’s digital you can make it sound however you want. Some assembly required. The Winduino II is a wireless, digital version of an Aeolian harp that can be listened to on its own or used as accompaniment for other instruments. Still based around the Adruino BT Bluetooth board, the Winduino II has several improvements over the last version which has vastly improved the performance of this unique sound generating device. The Winduino II also has a custom stand, so the device can be used inside or hung from a hook or tree branch outdoors. Read more at blog.makezine.com |
Between my dad and I, sawdust is something that is never in short supply around here. Now if I could just find some extra time… Israeli designer Yoav Avinoam has developed a handcrafted method for casting unique furniture from repurposed sawdust. This is a pretty cool looking project and it looks like he put a lot of time into it for his grandson.
More pics at the source. | According to their website and many satisfied customer accounts, Vespas are definitely built to last so I have to wonder how one handy grandpappy ended up retiring his old model and turning it into the rocking horse depicted throughout this post. |
| It’s definitely nifty to gaze at and the body seems to be in fine shape, so why grandpappy, whyyyyy? |
| I can only presume that his scooter spit out its last breath longgggg ago and instead of sending it to landfill purgatory, he recycled it into a sweet little treasure for his doe-eyed grandson, Diego, complete with fiberglass body, stainless steel wrapped platform, wood trimmed edges and imitation leather seat. |
| Craftsmanship like that isn’t very common these days. Nice job, DIY grandpappy — you are a green trailblazer since I don’t believe that anything quite like this has ever been done before!Read more at www.greenwala.com |
This is really cool. I know it’s sponsored by jeep but it sounds like it’s still his original idea. Either way it’s awesome.
I guess I’m not surprised but I am still disappointed. I grew up watching him play and I always thought he was the good to Jose Conseco’s bad… Maybe he still is but definitely not as much as he was. Far from election to the Hall of Fame in four chances and about to re-enter baseball after a long absence, Mark McGwire on Monday admitted to using steroids.
McGwire — who set a single-season record with 70 home runs in 1998, a feat that is credited with helping baseball rebound from the 1994 players’ strike — said he used steroids in the 1989-90 offseason, 1993 and “on occasion throughout the nineties, including during the 1998 season” in a statement released by the St. Louis Cardinals. |
Wow, what a story! I’m partial to tree’s because I love working with wood and being involved with scouts gives you a new respect for them but I think anyone will find this story, well, many emotions for me…moving, inspiring, saddening…
I highly recommend you read the whole story at the source.
YARMOUTH, Maine (Jan. - The massive elm tree that shaded the corner of East Main Street and Yankee Drive was sick. Like so many others in so many of America’s towns in the 1950s, it was stricken with Dutch elm disease. |
Tree warden Frank Knight was so smitten with the tree that he couldn’t bear to cut it down. After all, it had been standing sentinel in this New England village since before the American Revolution. |
Frank Knight, 101, has worked since the 1950s to save an old elm tree from Dutch elm disease. But the tree is suffering from its 14th bout of the sickness, and Knight is giving up the fight. “His time has come,” Knight said. “And mine is about due, too.” Read more at www.sphere.com |
